I am the Astral Zephyr, and my mission is:
To explore the lost colonies and to explore beyond the realms of man,
To help all that I survey and leave them better than I found them,
To meet aliens and treat with them for the benefit of all,
To understand the universe and to thereby make that universe a better place.
This I will perform to the best of my ability, with all the wit, wisdom, and resources at my command.
To this ideal I pledge my sacred honor, now and forever.
…and that’s the first draft of my mission statement. Susana thinks I should codify my goals, most for the benefit of the crew. That was we will all be on the same page, and they will at least trust my intentions. More importantly, I would like this statement to be complete and finalized by the time we arrive on Tien Terra Beta. I have read Mr. Gestler’s report on hiring approaches, and I have decided to approach the planet openly (though cautiously) – a clear mission would probably be good for attracting the right kind of recruits, and Susana agrees.
