Ship’s Notes: Return to Telivoni

The current plan is to fly towards Telivoni, and, as we reach the outside limits of our sensor suite, slow to only somewhat above the speed of light, as to have perfect stealth during the approach, yet maximize the time for data collection.

Most of the crew believes that Telivoni is, in fact, simply under quarantine, and that manually disabling the gate simply became necessary to avoid escapees spreading the disease.  As such, I have explained we will be flying by and recording the planet, and definitely not landing.

Some of the crew knows better.  Currently the two software engineers are working with Chief Science Officer Reiviki on a program to watch for FTL usage as we approach.  If the Telivonians do not have FTL capability, we should be safe to observe more safely.  If they do… then things become more complicated.  Unfortunately, them not having FTL capability in the present is not something we will be able to see unless we are actually there.  So long as we are a safe distance away, and we simply know that they had not tested FTL technology by the time the light we are seeing was reflected or emitted.  Consequently, it become highly relevant to notice FTL technology during the last stages of our approach.

My other concern, and one I have not shared with Gestler, is the question of what manner of sensors the crashed aliens possess.  It would not entirely be out of the question that their sensor magic ignores physics just as much as their spaceships.  If the aliens are working freely with the Telivonians, however… well, Gestler’s scenarios for conquering the Linked Systems come into play, and it may well be better to side with the Telivonians for a relatively peaceful transition.
